HIGH-END LOOKS FOR LESS: STUDIO MCGEE’S SWAN LAKE HOUSE BEDROOM INSPIRATION

Welcome to my new “High End Looks for Less” monthly feature where I scour the web to find interior design projects that inspire the hell out of me, but not my itty bitty bank account.

The majority of people (such as myself) can’t afford to replicate these high end rooms, but we still desire to achieve the same look and those feel-good vibes these perfectly-designed rooms give us.

So my goal is to show you that with a little bit of imaginative interpretation and a LOT of product sourcing, these high end looks can be achieved for a fraction of the inspiration room’s estimated budget.

STUDIO MCGEE:  I BOW DOWN TO THEE

When I first started planning the entire interior design and build of our current modern farmhouse back in 2016, I started an Instagram account and started saving any interior design images that inspired me.

I started to notice that similar images seemed to catch my eye and the majority of them were from Studio McGee.  I couldn’t get enough of their light, bright and airy spaces and the way they mixed metals – sheer perfection! They already had a pretty big following at the time (around 75,000 or so), and it was way before they opened up their current online and brick-and-mortar shops (I’m beyond thrilled for all of their successes!).

And since 2016, their designs have gotten even tastier although I’m not sure how it’s even humanly possible to perfect perfection …

THE HIGH-END INSPIRATION:  SWAN LAKE HOUSE BEDROOM

So this image from their Swan Lake House custom build project inspired the HELL out of me.

From the beautiful, serene shade of green on the vertical shiplap walls, to the subtle pop of color and texture from the leather headboard, to the super comfy linens.  Ah- this is what Heaven must look like.

I knew this definitely was the room I needed to recreate on a realistic budget for “regular” people like me.

HIGH-END PRICE TAG FOR THIS HIGH-END LOOK:
HOLY CRAP, THAT HURTS!!

This kind of high-end interior design perfection typically comes with a super painful price tag.

I’m not sure of the exact cost of this room but based upon a few items that Studio McGee sells through their online shop, McGee & Co., I would estimate this room cost at least $20,000 (not including the flooring, painting and woodwork, and another side of the room I did not replicate) to design and furnish.  That’s a helluva price tag for one bedroom!

Chandelier | Table Lamp | Art Print

I don’t know about you, but I don’t have that kind of scratch to spend on a bedroom.  I mean, the items shown above cost enough for a down payment on a leased vehicle.

As much as I love interior design, I’d much rather have a kickass car in my garage.

1.  Blue-Green Paint | 2. Wood Floor | 3. Table Lamp  | 4. Cable Knit Throw | 5. Rug
6. Nightstand | 7. Leather Pillow Bed | 8. Linen Duvet | 9. Chandelier
10. Boho Lumbar Pillow | 11. Seashore Canvas Print

The total cost of the items above (excluding the paint and wood flooring since those are variable costs) comes to a grand total of $3,800.  FOR. THE. WHOLE. ROOM.  That’s WAY more in my budgetary wheelhouse.

I hope this post inspired you to not be intimidated in trying to recreate a high-end interior design look you love due to the accompanying high-end price tag.  There are ways to achieve the look and feel of that inspiration room you love without buying the exact items the interior designer used.

And always try to interpret an inspiration room for YOU because we’re all individuals and have such different personalities!  Just use these rooms as design guides and then put your own personal stank on them.
