Hey, guys! Happy FRIDAAAAAAYYY! It’s almost the end of the month and that means it’s STALKIN’ FOR STYLE TIME!!!
Whenever I’m decorating something for myself, a friend or a client, one of my requirements is you absolutely MUST love every piece you bring into your home. Every. Damned. Piece.
Whether it be new, vintage, thrifted or whatever. YOU MUST LOVE IT. Period. Full stop.
So here is my decorating advice to you …
ONLY BUY PIECES YOU WILL LOVE, LIKE SUPER HARD
If you’re in the process of furnishing your home, don’t run out and buy random crap just to fill up a room because not only does it end up being a colossal waste of your hard-earned money, but you will also end up regretting being stuck with crap you can’t stand looking at on a daily basis.
So my advice to you is be patient and wait for the perfect piece to come along that you know will bring you joy and a BIG smile every time you look at it. Your home should be giving you ALL the feels, not just some feels with a lot of “meh” dusted in. Your home needs to be your sanctuary (the name of this blog!) away from the crazy world, and it should feel like your safe place that brings you peace, serenity and happiness.
I am NOT a super patient person by nature (I definitely have to work at it), but I can be patient with regard to certain things. Case in point – we’ve had this West Elm platform bed in the guest bedroom of our previous home for 5 years. We actually got it for free because we accumulated enough reward points from a few other purchases we made at West Elm that year. #yaaasss
I searched high and low for a unique headboard that would be a piece we’d own for many years. Even though it was going to reside in our guest bedroom, I still wanted a headboard that looked and felt special. In those 5 years we lived in that house, I never found a headboard and resigned to the fact that I might never find one quite special enough. *Sigh*
Fast forward to 2017 when we moved into our current modern farmhouse. My previously unsuccessful headboard search was back on in full effect! This time, I was beyond determined to find a super special piece I was gonna love – like, HARD.
I knew I wanted it to be tall, have some kind of interesting design without being crazy, and I wanted warm wood tones. And this time, I wanted to put the bed in our master bedroom to enjoy it every – freaking – day.
This ended up becoming the dream bed I REALLY wanted but I couldn’t shell out $1,900 for it since our construction budget went over due to unforeseen issues, which ended up eating into our furniture budget. I was SUPER bummed. *BIG SIGH*
But I kept at it and finally – FINALLY – I came across this beauty on Wayfair for $400. YES – $400!! Plus FREE shipping!
Look at how pretty it is in our bedroom!! It’s like a piece of art. LOVE.
Even though it’s not the original dream bed from West Elm I wanted, it is a pretty dreamy headboard (it’s SO pretty in person, you guys!). I catch myself smiling EVERY time I look at. I’m planning on getting a different linen duvet in the next few months which will make our bed THAT much dreamier. I can’t wait!
I can see us owning this unique headboard for many years because it’s so unique and the wood is gorgeous. So yes – I love this thing, like super hard. It was totally worth the wait.
And now, I want YOU to have a bed you love … like super hard!
